Si la soie d'araignée évoque le mythe en
Europe, elle est perçue d'une manière différente en Mélanésie
et à Madagascar. Cette distinction semble venir d'une opposition
d'observation et d'ambition. En effet la toile d'araignée
est vue en Europe comme une bobine de fil continu d'aspect
lumineux, appréciée pour ses qualitées esthétiques et séduisantes.
Alors que les Mélanésiens et les Malgaches utilisent les fils
à des fins fonctionnelles : la pêche et la chasse. Leur ambition
mime le comportement fonctionnel de l'araignée qui sécrète
un fil adapté aux différentes fonctions. Cependant la vision
des mélanésiens et des malgaches ne se limite pas à l'utilisation
pratique de ces derniers puisqu'ils semblent établir un lien
entre les vivants et les défunts. D'autres interprétations
encore sont faites mais ne sont pas communiquées car secrètes.
En Europe la science donne une perspective nouvelle à l'utilisation
de la soie d'araignée qui valorise ses propriétés depuis longtemps
utilisées par les mélanésiens et les malgaches.

Although spider silk reminds the myths in
Europe, it is differently perceived in Melanesy and in Madagascar.
The main reasons justifying this different perception seems
to be found in an opposition of both, observation and ambition.
Europeans see spider silk as a continue rolled and shiny line
and they appreciate it for its aestethic and charming qualities.
On the other hand, among Melanesians and Malagasys, it bas
a main fonctional value, beeing employed in fishing and hunting.
They try to utilize spider silk as a spider itself would do
in different situations. Besides this fonctional one, Melanesian
and Malagasys have a trascendental perception of spider silk
: among them it seems to have the power of establishing a
connection between alive and dead people. Some other trascendental
perceptions exist but they are keeped secret. European scientists
are finally reevaluating from a new perspective the utilization
of spider silk, considering, as Malagasys and Melanesian aiready
do, its fonctional and technological properties.

Dans le cadre de l'organisation générale
des collections inventoriées du Muséum, des spécimens de Chiroptères
d'origines diverses ont été regroupés. Les spécimens sont
vérifiés individuellement, tant au niveau de leur détermination
qu'à celui de la documentation les accompagnant. Les informations
relatives aux conditions de capture et les éléments de biométrie
notés lors des identifications sont inclus dans ce catalogue
raisonné qui regroupe tous les spécimens actuels de Chiroptères
conservés à ce jour dans cet établissement.

Within the framework of general organisation
of the inventoried collections of the Natural history Museum,
various specimens of Chiroptera were brought together again.
The specimens are checked individually, as well by their determination
as by documentation accompanying them. Information relating
to the conditions of capture and the elements of biometrics
noted at the time of the identifications are included in this
reasoned catalogue which includes ail the current specimens
of Chiroptera to date preserved in this establishment.
